Biography

Biography

Born in Wroclaw, Poland in 1956
Graduated photographic College in 1981
Since that time acquired experience in various categories of photography:
Jazz concert photography, after being accredited by the Jazz Festivals in Wroclaw, for a few years in early eighties;
press photography, working as a photo-reporter for The Country Publishing Agency in Warsaw between 1981 and 1984;
archaeological photography, working as a photographer of Polish Center of Archaeology in Cairo (Egypt), and traveling to the archaeological sites in Egypt, Sudan and Cyprus between 1984 and 1986;
fine art catalogue photography, working as a photographer of “Sotheby’s” Auction House in New York since 1989 (on staff till May 1999 – freelance since then).
Architectural Photography and interiors, working freelance for many architectural companies and interior magazines in US.

At the same time since the arrival to the States in 1987 (after a year spent in Italy) has been working on several long term projects like Architecture of New York City or Nudes, as well as the most recent and the strongest fascination with the Concept of Time and its Ambivalence or the Memory, resulting in using of the montage of the B&W photographic prints as a basic medium regardless of the subject matter.

About the work

About the work

About Time (formerly The Unorthodox Nudes)
For a long time I have been obsessed with TIME and the AMBIGUITY of the concept of the TIME-SPACE. In short, future, past and present exist simultaneously, and influence each other. This existence happens on parallel platforms in the same space, therefore one can say that we exist simultaneously in all places at once, so we can actually feel and see. (as in “Troubles...” or “Progress”) Especially, when combined with memories, what we see at any particular moment of time is not what is actually happening at this moment, but it is a cluster, more or less orderly of everything we know we should see or can see, or what we simply want to see.

In addition to that, space (our cities, our streets and houses, but also things) "remember" us as we pass, (as in “Time Waves”, or “Coexistence”) leaving the traces of ourselves in the places we know. Our sole presence, even for the brief moment changes everything around us as in return the environment changes us, even if only by its presence.

Above all space is very “badly” defined. The borders or “walls” of any particular space unit are only an affect of understanding the space as something strictly defined and limited. In “my reality” such borders are only a subject to extending, crossing, braking. Simply: borders are a creation of our minds, when we need them or want them, or when we do not have a power to go beyond. (as in “Coexistence” and “The wall”).

Some of he pictures belonging to this project are nudes, some not. Some are very unorthodox, almost surreal, manipulated images, montages, and some are straight prints. Yet contrary to the first impression they are strongly interconnected, creating body of work which I would like to call: "The Unorthodox Nudes".

Architecture

Architecture

It has been my passion for a long time. Especially here in New York City the architecture has a tremendous seductive power. In short you may define it by: THE ULTIMATE BEAUTY OF A FUNCTION - THE ULTIMATE FUNCTIONALITY OF A BEAUTY.
